Thai Police Arrest 21 Presumed to be N. Korean Escapees

Thai authorities have arrested 21 people believed to be North Korean escapees.

The Thailand Immigration Bureau said police made the arrests at the country's northernmost province of Chiang Rai.

Kyodo News reported that the 21 include four children and appear to have entered Thailand illegally after fleeing the North. It added that the North Koreans have expressed intentions to go to a third country, possibly South Korea.

The South Korean government said that it found out about the arrests of the North Koreans on Sunday and is taking necessary measures to address the matter.

Earlier this month, Thai police arrested 13 North Koreans presumed to be escapees.
