An inter-Korean committee on handling the operation of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex is meeting on Thursday at the industrial park.

North Korea offered to hold the meeting earlier this week after repeatedly turning down Seoul’s request to hold such a gathering. The meeting is the first to be held since last December.

Before departing for the industrial complex, South Korea’s chief negotiator for the talks, Lee Kang-woo, said the South will focus discussions on ways to normalize operations in the Gaeseong park.

In particular, he vowed that best efforts will be made toward resolving issues related to communication, cross-border passage and customs.

Following the 10 a.m. meeting, officials from the two Koreas started the afternoon session at 2:30 p.m.

A unification ministry official said the morning session covered issues such as Internet connection, personnel management and wages.
