N.Korea Denounces Neutral Nations Commission's Visit Plan to S. Korea

North Korea has expressed it is displeased with the announcement that a European delegation made up of representatives from the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC) will visit South Korea.

In an interview with a military newspaper, a spokesman for North Korea’s representative at the truce village of Panmunjeom called the visit a reckless provocation. He said the NNSC became ineffective and useless a long time ago.

The North’s comments come after the NNSC representatives from Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia announced their plan to visit South Korea for a high-ranking policy meeting in mid-July.

The spokesman insisted that as a puppet of the U.S., the commission lacks neutrality and fairness in blaming the North for escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

He urged the U.S. to give up  its futile attempts to bring the commission to life again.

North Korea has claimed uselessness of the Military Armistice Commission (MAC) of the United Nations Command and the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission since the 1990s.
