The first inter-Korean meeting in six months on the Gaeseong Industrial Complex operation has ended without substantial agreements.
Delegations of the two Koreas held a plenary session on Thursday morning at the support center within the industrial park and chiefs of the delegations held meetings twice in the afternoon.
In the delegation chiefs’ talks, the two sides are known to have discussed ways to improve access to the complex, Internet connections as well as other pending issues such as personnel management and the wage system, but failed to come up with any agreements.
The two sides however reaffirmed the basic principle of resolving pending issues of the industrial park through consultation.
After the meeting, the chief of the South Korean delegation said Seoul suggested the two sides hold talks again in August, but the Northern delegation only said it will review the idea.
During Thursday's talks, Pyongyang reportedly urged Seoul to lift its sanctions on North Korea imposed in 2010.
Pyongyang offered to hold the meeting earlier this week after repeatedly turning down Seoul’s requests. The meeting was the first to be held since last December. The North has rejected discussions since the February joint military drills between the South and the U.S.
