North Korean archers will visit South Korea this summer to train for the Incheon Asian Games. The training is expected to have a positive impact on sports exchanges between the South and the North.

"We have selected the archery team that can go (to the South) and hold joint on-site training in advance."

The official said it has been decided the archers will head to South Korea at the end of July.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is said to have personally ordered the field training.

The North Korean athletes are expected to train at the Gyeyang Asiad Archery Field in Incheon for about two weeks.

An official of the Korea Archery Association in Seoul said about 16 to 17 North Korean athletes and coaches will train in China before arriving in South Korea. The official said while the association doesn't have details of North Korea's training plan, the South Korean national team should be prepared for possible joint training programs.

The Olympic Council of Asia will pay for the cost of the training and provide on-site training for 30 countries through the organizing committee of the Incheon Asian Games.

The event will be held for 16 days in September and October. Athletes will compete for eight gold medals in archery during the games, including individual and team events for men and women using recurve and compound bows. As there are no compound archers in North Korea, four male and four female recurve archers and about seven to eight coaches and sports officials are expected to participate in the training program.
