South Korean firms will visit the North this month to conduct another field survey regarding the Rajin-Hassan logistics partnership project.
Briefing lawmakers at the National Assembly Tuesday, Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae said South Korea and Russian businesses are expected to hold negotiations later this year regarding the deal between Pyongyang and Moscow.
He also said the government will review ways to support the multinational project in which South Korea is taking part through Russia.
A South Korean consortium signed a memorandum of understanding late last year with Russia to join the project aimed at developing a North Korean border port for an envisioned railway from Korea to Siberia.
The consortium consists of three firms, which include POSCO, the Korea Railroad Corporation and Hyundai Merchant Marine.
During the report, the unification minister said the Kim Jong-un regime is implementing more flexible economic management measures in phases. He added, however, Pyongyang's efforts to attract foreign investment in its tourism and other projects have not been so successful.
Eighteen officials of the consortium conducted the first field inspection in February.
