North Korea has criticized Japan for its recent review of the 1993 Kono Statement as talks between the two sides are under way.
 
The Rodong Sinmun, the gazette of the North's ruling Workers' Party, said Thursday that Japan should be ashamed as its review is an attempt to revive its history of invasion and again commit antihuman crimes.
 
The paper also said that Japan threw away an opportunity to reflect on its wartime atrocities by reviewing how the document was drafted. It claimed that Japan is deceiving the international community and ultimately denying the statement.
