The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has launched a program to draw foreign tourists to fishing villages, selecting five towns for the program.

The five locations include Ponae Village in Incheon, a 15-minute drive from Incheon International Airport. Ponae is widely known as the shooting location of the film “Silmido".

Also on the list is Susan Village in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, a 20-minute ride from Yangyang International Airport. The town is famous for canoeing and Mount Seorak.

A ministry official said that the government is planning an event in which foreign tourists in South Korea visit local fishing villages from July to November. The official added that about two thousand will likely visit the five villages when the program launches.
