Gyeonggi Province to Aid N. Korea with Pesticides

Written: 2014-07-05 13:52:29Updated: 2014-07-05 13:59:43

Gyeonggi Province said it plans to give aid to North Korea for the first time in four years.

The provincial government said it will deliver pesticide through Gaesong around July 18 after it receives final approval from the Ministry of Unification. It said the green light is likely to be given around next week.

Roughly 500 million won’s worth of pesticide and materials to be used to exterminate pine needle gall midge, a pine tree pest, will be sent to North Korea.

The assistance comes after Seoul had cut off nearly all humanitarian aid to Pyongyang after North Korea launched a torpedo attack on a South Korean warship in 2010.
