Seoul Discredits Pyongyang's Inter-Korean Proposal

Pyongyang urged Seoul to adhere to the inter-Korea declarations of 2000 and 2007 and to stop mutual slandering.

North Korea made the proposals in its “Statement of the Government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea" released on Monday.

In the rare document, North Korea said South Korea must stop asking other countries for cooperation regarding the North's nuclear issues. It said the South's trust-building process and the Dresden Initiative are anti-Korean acts which seek to absorb North Korea.

Regarding the statement, unification ministry spokesman Kim Eui-do said North Korea should stop repeating irrational demands and come forward for dialogue. Kim said looking back at the history of the South and North, pushing a one-sided claim on the other has never solved any problems.

On the North's assertion that nuclear weapons are its collateral for peace, Kim said it is difficult to understand the North's claim that nuclear arms aren't stumbling blocks to an improvement in inter-Korean relations, but guarantee the peace and prosperity of Koreans.
