S. Korea Envisions Building South-North-Russia Railway Training Center

Korea Railroad (KORAIL) is pursuing the creation of a South-North-Russia railway training center in North Korea or Russia in January.

KORAIL said Monday that it proposed North Korea's Rajin and Russia's Ussuriysk and Khabarovsk as sites for the training center to Russian Railways and received a favorable response.

Russian Railways is also said to have suggested that using Russia's railway training center in Ussuriysk could move up the opening of the center.

The training center will pass on South Korean technology to North Korean and Russian railway officials and students to realize the goal of establishing a Eurasian railway, which would link Korea to Europe through Russia.

KORAIL will propose the plan to North Korea again next month after its second due diligence on the Rajin-Khasan railway project.

Korail Chief Executive Choi Yeon-hye proposed the plan to North Korea through Russian Railways when she visited Pyongyang in April to attend the 29th meeting of the Organisation for Co-operation between Railways. North Korea said it would discuss the matter on the last day of the meeting, but delayed discussions at the last minute.
