North to Tighten Sanctions on Gaeseong Complex Entry Violations

North Korea says it will tighten sanctions on South Koreans violating entry rules at the North’s Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

Seoul's Unification Ministry said the North sent a unilateral notice on Monday signed by a senior military official. The message said Pyongyang will adopt stronger sanctions from Thursday, which include a temporary entry ban of one or two days for those violating the entry order at the complex.

The North's latest move is believed to be related to recent incidents of South Koreans being caught with smartphones or USBs at Gaeseong, which are banned at the factory park.

Until now, North Korea imposed fines on these cases such as a hundred dollar fine on possession of mobile phones and 50 dollars for failing to adhere to entry hours.
