The South Korean national football team’s manager, Hong Myung-bo, has announced his resignation, following Team Korea’s disappointing performance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
In a news conference on Thursday morning, Hong said he would step down from his position as manager to take responsibility for the national football team’s poor performance in Brazil.

"I made all the choices and decisions. I thought they were the best ones at the moment, but they were problematic in hindsight. I would like to say sorry to the football fans. I spent time regretting and reflecting on what happened and concluded that I am not good enough. I am resigning."
Since assuming the post in late June of last year, Hong managed 19 matches with five victories, four draws and ten losses.
The announcement comes after the Korea Football Association’s decision earlier this month to retain Hong.
During the news conference, Vice Chairman of the Korea Football Association Huh Jung-moo also announced his resignation to take responsibility for the national football team's winless campaign in Brazil.
