N. Korea Bashes Entry of U.S. Carrier into S. Korean Port

North Korea lashed out against the entry of a United States nuclear-powered aircraft carrier into Busan in South Korea on Friday, stating it would be a provocation against improving relations between the two Koreas.

The North's National Defense Commission said the arrival of the supercarrier, USS George Washington, was a deterrent to inter-Korean ties and demanded South Korea make the right choice.

Pyongyang also said the entry of the supercarrier coincides with the timing of a special announcement by the commission and the state, acting as a challenge to the North's efforts to improve relations with the South.

The supercarrier entered a port in Busan late on Friday, where it will be deployed in joint military exercises with South Korea's navy from July 16. It will move on to a joint military exercise between the U.S., South Korea and Japan starting July 21 for two days.
