KCNA Reports Live-Fire Drill in the East Sea

North Korea says it conducted a live-fire drill on the front line in the East Sea under the supervision of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The North’s official Korean Central News Agency said Tuesday that Kim oversaw the drill conducted by the 171st troop on the “351 Heroes Hill” at the eastern front line.

The news agency said Kim was accompanied by the North Korean military's top political officer Hwang Pyong-so, Army General Ri Yong-gil and So Hong-chan, director of the Army General Staff Operations Bureau.

The KCNA said the drill was to check the country’s readiness to subdue enemies infiltrating through the maritime military demarcation line. It said the drill was also to arm the country with normal combat readiness.

On Monday the North fired around 100 artillery shells into the East Sea near the military demarcation line in Goseong, Gangwon Province.
