North Korea says it may reconsider its participation in the Incheon Asian Games, blaming South Korea for the failed working-level talks on the upcoming event.
The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Friday that the South demonstrated an unreasonable attitude at the talks held Thursday at the truce village of Panmunjeom.
The report said the South’s delegation was cooperative in the beginning of the talks, but suddenly changed its attitude upon orders from the presidential office.
During Thursday’s talks, the North said it wanted to bring 350 athletes along with a cheering team of the same size to the games. The KNCA reported the South took issue with the size of the cheering squad and also proposed the North pay the expenses for its delegation this time.
The report said if the South continues to show such a defiant attitude, the North would have to fundamentally reconsider its participation in the Incheon Asian Games. It added the North’s participation depends entirely on the South’s attitude.
