38 North: N. Korea Expected to Complete Upgrading Sohae Station Next Yr.

A North Korea analysis Web site says the North is expected to finish upgrading its Sohae Satellite Launching Station to support long-range missile and satellite launches by next year.

The Web site 38 North made the assessment based on satellite imagery taken on July 4.

The report said major construction has been underway since mid-2013 to upgrade the Sohae Satellite Launching Station in Tongchang-ri to handle larger rockets with greater ranges and payloads.

The report said the North had increased the height of the station’s gantry to over 50 meters, and has progressed in making a new wider road and rail spur to carry larger rockets directly to the launch pad.
