N. Korea Threatens Pres. Office, White House over Joint Drill

North Korea has urged South Korea and the United States to call off their annual joint Ulchi Freedom Guardian military exercises set to begin at the end of this month.

The North’s Korea National Peace Committee made the call in a statement on Thursday. It said if the military drill is not canceled, the South Korean presidential office and the White House, as well as all forces and military units taking part in the drill, will become targets of the North’s firepower strikes.

In particular, the committee raised issue with the upcoming exercises’ tailored strategy to respond to the North’s threats of nuclear attacks and weapons of mass destruction. It claimed that tensions are being created in which a slight incident could spark a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula.

The committee urged Seoul and Washington to immediately halt the drills it claimed are aimed at invading the North.
