N.Korea Reiterates Desire to Participate in Incheon Asiad

North Korea is reiterating its desire to participate in the 2014 Asian Games to be held in the South Korean port city of Incheon in September.

The North’s propaganda Web site “Uriminjok-kkiri” said sending North Korea’s athletes and cheering squad to the games will help improve inter-Korean relations. The site added North Korean athletes and coaches are working hard to prepare for the games.

The Web site insisted that South Korea should not attempt to use the Asian Games for political purposes, as it is a sports event aimed at promoting peace, friendship and unity among Asian countries.

Despite repeating its willingness to send athletes and a cheering squad to Incheon, Pyongyang has not yet proposed to hold more inter-Korean talks since a working-level cross-border meeting collapsed on July 17.
