Movie “Roaring Currents” Sells 5 Mln Tickets in Just 6 Days

The Korean period action film “Roaring Currents” has drawn over five million viewers in less than a week after its opening.

Film distributor CJ Entertainment said the movie was seen by five million-11-thousand people as of Monday morning, only six days after its release on July 30. It has hit the five million mark fastest among movies ever released in South Korea.

The film reached the milestone four days earlier than other mega-hit movies like “Snowpiercer,” “The Thieves,” The Host” and “Secretly, Greatly.”

“Roaring Currents” also attracted one-point-25 million moviegoers on Sunday alone to set a daily box office record.

The period action drama is about Joseon Admiral Yi Sun-shin’s battle and the remarkable naval victory in 1597 over Japanese invaders in the sea of Myeongnyang. The legendary admiral defeated a Japanese fleet consisting of 330 vessels with only 12 ships at his command.
