Officials of the Hyundai Group have visited Mount Geumgang in North Korea for a memorial service for former Chairman Chung Mong-hun.
A delegation of 23 officials, including Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun, traveled to Mount Geumgang on Monday through an inter-Korean transit office in Gangwon Province. They will return to South Korea Monday afternoon after attending the memorial service and inspecting Hyundai Asan facilities in the North's mountain resort.
The Unification Ministry in Seoul said that Hyun’s visit is to honor the 11th anniversary of the death of her husband and that she has no plans to meet with North Korean officials during her stay.
Upon Hyun’s previous memorial visit to the mountain resort in August of last year, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a letter wishing for the Hyundai Group's success. The message was delivered through Won Dong-yon, deputy head of the United Front Department of the Workers’ Party.
