Pope Francis will beatify 124 Korean Catholic martyrs in a ceremony in Seoul on August 16.
The Korean Catholic Church said at a news briefing on Tuesday that the beatification will be officiated by the pope and concelebrated by Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung and Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin.
The beatification ceremony will be attended by about 100 bishops, 19-hundred priests and about 170-thousand Catholics.
The beatification will be a simple, low-key ceremony and the pope will meet with Korean Catholics in a parade from Seoul City Hall to Gwanghwamun Square.
An altar only one-point-eight meters high will be set up for the ceremony as the Vatican wants the pope to have eye contact with those in attendance.
A statue of baby Jesus and the Virgin Mary in the Korean hanbok will be placed on the altar.
The pope will use the Latin language during the ceremony, while the those attending the service will answer in Korean. The pope will speak Italian for a sermon, which will be translated in Korean for the audience.
KBS will broadcast the beatification in real time, and it will also be broadcast by CNN and other foreign media outlets as well.
