North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was found to have changed the names of factories related to his uncle Jang Song-thaek who he had executed last year.
According to the North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency and Rodong Sinmun, Kim visited a tile factory last Sunday in Nampo city and changed the name to Cheollima Tile Factory. Kim also handed over the factory's operating rights to the military.
The factory was confirmed to be the Daedongang Tile Factory that was built in July 2009 when Jang served as head of the administrative department of the Workers’Party .
In a ruling on Jang’s execution last December, the North said Jang refused to put up mosaic images of North Korean founder Kim Il-sung and former North Korean leader Kim Jong-il at the tile factory.
A South Korean government official said a close aide of Jang managed the factory, while Jang had profited greatly from the facility.
Kim also was found to have changed the name of a lubricating oil plant in Nampo city, which he inspected on Tuesday. The plant was regarded to be the administrative department’s largest means of securing foreign currency.
Observers say it appears Kim is seeking to eliminate all remnants of his uncle and gain support from the North’s military.
