The Foreign Ministry says it is drawing up an evacuation plan for Koreans in the Middle East in case of a war in Iraq. A ministry official said the ministry is taking transportation, accommodation and other measures to bring South Korean citizens out of the danger area in the event of war. Many South Koreans have already fled Iraq, Kuwait and Israel as the region is lurching closer to war. However, some 600 Koreans still remain in the region. The official said as of Wednesday, there are five Koreans in Iraq, and hundreds in Kuwait and Israel.
