A group of Korean Russians taking part in a cross-continental road trip to South Korea to mark the 150th anniversary of the first Korean immigration to Russia is set to enter North Korea.
Drivers of the Russia-Korea 2014 International Rally have arrived in Kraskino in Russia’s Far East and will enter North Korea by train on Friday.
One of the organizers of the trip told Seoul-based Yonhap News that the cars must be loaded on a train because there are no proper driving roads linking Russia to the North Korean border region. The cars will be transported from Russia’s Khasan to the North’s Rajin.
The 29-member team departed from Moscow on July 7 in eight vehicles, traveling through Kazakhstan and Siberia.
On Friday, the team will travel through Mount Baekdu and Mount Geumgang and are expected to arrive in Pyongyang next Thursday. The drivers will then travel through the Gaesong Industrial Complex around next Saturday before entering South Korea.
