The 2014 World Children's Literature Convention is taking place in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province.
Jointly hosted by the Kyung Hee University Institute of Research for Korean Children's Literature and the Korean Association of Children's Literature, the event began Friday and will run through August 12.
The official opening ceremony was held Saturday morning at Changwon Hotel with world leading writers of children's stories in attendance.
Some 500 officials and writers from 16 countries are taking part in the convention. Participants include Mavis Reimer, the president of the International Research Society for Children's Literature, Anne Fine who wrote the book for the film “Mrs. Doubtfire” and Italian author Pierdomenico Baccalario who wrote the successful “Ulysses Moore” series.
South Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan have been holding the Asia Children's Literature Convention every two years since 1990. When the event is held in South Korea, it always includes works and authors outside of Asia.
