First Alternative-Energy Greenhouse Built in N.Korea

U.S.-based Radio Free Asia (RFA) says the construction of North Korea's first alternative-energy greenhouse was completed recently through the help of Swiss humanitarian aid group Agape international.

RFA reported Saturday that Agape international posted on its website that the greenhouse had been visited after a completion ceremony was held on the premises in late June.

The greenhouse uses gases from animal fecal waste to warm the building and can be used for farming during the cold winter months.

It is roughly 495 square meters wide and features double-framed walls to boost insulation with a pig farm built adjacent to the biogas greenhouse.
