“Roaring Currents” Tops 10 Mln Viewers in Just 12 Days

The Korean period action movie “Roaring Currents” has drawn over ten million viewers in a record of 12 days after its opening.

The film's distributor CJ Entertainment said the movie was seen by more than ten million people as of Sunday morning. It has hit the milestone fastest among movies ever released in South Korea.

“Roaring Currents” is the tenth South Korean movie to reach the ten-million mark, or 12th if foreign films are included.

The movie has achieved the feat ten days sooner than the previous record setter “The Host.”

The period film features the victory of Joseon Admiral Yi Sun-shin’s remarkable naval victory in 1597 over Japanese invaders in the sea of Myeongnyang. The admiral defeated a Japanese fleet of 330 vessels with only 12 ships at his command.
