U.S. business magazine Forbes says that South Korean figure skater Kim Yu-na was the fourth highest paid female athlete over the past year.
Forbes tallied prize money and endorsement deals of female athletes between June 2013 and June this year and found Kim was the highest paid outside the tennis realm.
Forbes said the figure skating star banked an estimated 16-point-three million dollars to rank fourth overall.
The report said even though the Sochi Olympics in February marked the end of Kim’s competitive skating career, she continues to sign endorsement deals and is one of the biggest celebrities in South Korea.
Sponsorship and endorsements have kept Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova at the top of list of the world’s highest-paid women in sports for the tenth straight year.
Tennis players filled the other top three spots in this year’s Forbes list with China’s Li Na ranked second and American Serena Williams placed at third.
