On his second day in Korea, Pope Francis prayed for the victims of the deadly sinking of the Sewol ferry in April and their bereaved families.
The pope delivered his Angelus prayer in English during the Mass held in Daejeon on Friday, marking the feast day of the Assumption of Mary. In the prayer, the pope said he entrusts the souls of the Sewol ferry victims and those who are still suffering from the tragedy to the Holy Mother.

"May the Lord welcome the dead into his peace, console those who mourn, and continue to sustain those who so generously came to the aid of their brothers and sisters..."
"May this tragic event, which has brought all Koreans together in grief, confirm their commitment to work together in solidarity for the common good."
Pope Francis continued to pray that the Virgin Mary would protect Korea and its people. He also prayed for the young people who had gathered from all over Asia to attend the Mass.
The Mass of the Assumption of Mary is a major Catholic event commemorating the Virgin Mary's ascension into heaven.
