The Korean period action flick "Roaring Currents" has so far drawn 12-point-five million viewers, the fifth highest of any Korean film released in the country.
According to the Korean Film Council's combined box office tally on Friday, the historical drama starring actor Choi Min-sik was watched by nearly 427-thousand people on Thursday to account for over 42 percent in ticket sales.
It topped the box office outrunning another action packed domestic film "The Pirates," which took up 27 percent of ticket sales on Thursday.
Since its release on July 30, "Roaring Currents" has drawn over 12-point-five million viewers in just 16 days, making it the fifth highest of any box office performance in the country.
If it goes on to top 450-thousand in the number of ticket sales, "Roaring Currents'" will claim the record title currently held by the 2006 monster film "The Host."
With the long weekend with Independence Day on Friday, the period action film is expected to continue to reset records.
The movie tells the story of Joseon Dynasty Admiral Yi Sun-shin's stunning victory in the battle of Myeongnyang against Japanese invaders in 1597. Admiral Yi defeated over 300 enemy ships with a fleet of only 12 under his command.
