N. Korea Refuses Park's Liberation Day Proposals

North Korea has criticized South Korea’s latest conciliatory offers made during President Park Geun-hye's Liberation Day speech.

The North’s propaganda website, Uriminzokkiri said Sunday that Park looked away from fundamental issues in her Friday speech regarding improving inter-Korean relations and reunification.

Calling the speech not worthy of discussion, the site argued that the South Korean president's offers were all mentioned in the Korean Peninsula trust building process and the Dresden Initiative, which have already been found useless.

The website said that it is a contradiction that the South is proposing a constructive dialogue, while being absorbed in a war rehearsal against the North.

The North added that things will improve if Seoul announces its commitment to faithfully implement inter-Korean agreements rather than presenting poor and unripe offers.

In her annual Liberation Day speech on Friday, President Park Geun-hye made a series of proposals to Pyongyang, including a joint project to manage mountains and streams across the Korean Peninsula.  For further discussions on the envisioned project, the president also invited North Korea to the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity to be held next month in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

She also proposed the two Koreas launch excavation projects for cultural heritages.
