Pope Francis sent a letter of consolation and rosaries to the families of the missing victims of April’s deadly ferry sinking.
The organizing committee for the papal visit from the Archdiocese of Seoul revealed the letter on Monday.
In the letter written in Korean, the pope apologized for not being able to visit the families in person. The pontiff then said that throughout his stay in Korea, he never forgot to pray for the victims of the ferry disaster and for their families.
He went on to say that he didn't know how to sufficiently express his consolation for the family members who are still in grave pain.
The pope listed the names of the ten missing passengers in the letter, praying that they would be found and returned to their families.
On Sunday morning, after baptizing the father of one of the students killed in the Sewol ferry sinking, the pope asked Father Kim Kun-tae to deliver the letter to the missing victims’ families.
