US Web Site: N. Korea Building Submarine Capable of Launching Ballistic Missiles

A United States Web site on American political and military news says North Korea is believed to be building a submarine capable of launching ballistic missiles.

The Washington Free Beacon said Wednesday that “a missile launch tube on a North Korean submarine was observed recently by U.S. intelligence agencies and is raising new concerns about the missile and nuclear threat from the communist regime in Pyongyang.”

The report added that U.S. intelligence agencies believe North Korea already has submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs).

The report said if the North develops the missile submarine, it would mean the North could use one of its submarine missiles to attack Anchorage, Alaska from waters near Russia’s Sakhalin Island.

The report said other potential targets for the North Korean missile submarine could be U.S. forces in Okinawa, the Philippines, or Guam from the Yellow Sea.
