Gov't to Provide N. Korea Map Service Via Daum

The government plans to release a detailed map of North Korea to the public.

The National Geographic Information Institute under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it will reveal the map via Web portal Daum Communications starting from four p.m. Friday.

The map provides information on the North’s administrative districts, geographical names, roads and the location of key mountains, buildings and railways.

It was drawn up based on maps that were produced by the National Geographic Information Institute between 2007 and 2009. Previously, it had been provided only to state-run agencies handling North Korea affairs.

The institute plans to continuously update and revise the map.
