S. Korea Falls 1-0 Vs Uruguay in Football Friendly

South Korea lost 1-0 in a football friendly with Uruguay on Monday, with its new head coach looking on from the stands.

Going up against sixth-ranked Uruguay Monday night at Goyang Stadium west of Seoul, the South Korean goalie missed a header by Jose Gimenez in the 68th minute.

The chief referee awarded a penalty to midfielder Ki Sung-yueng in the 43rd minute of the second half, but the decision was reversed after referee consultations.

Uli Stielike, named South Korea’s head coach last week, said South Korea could have tied, but wasn’t lucky.

He said South Korea has qualified for the World Cup eight times straight and that it is a young team with potential.

Stielike will head South Korea beginning with a friendly with Paraguay on October 10.
