RFA: N. Korea Refuses UN Food Security Mission

Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported Friday that North Korea has refused a joint food security survey by the World Food Program (WFP) and the Food Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Sandra Ferrari, a spokeswoman of the FAO, told RFA that it cancelled the 2014 Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission after it was refused by Pyongyang.

The FAO has conducted the mission together with the WFP since 1995. Elisabeth Byrs, a spokeswoman of the WFP, also confirmed that the North refused the mission. She said, however, that the WFP is still negotiating with the regime to secure another way of finding out the food situation in the North.
