Gov't Adds 69 People to List of S. Korean Abductees of Korean War

The South Korean government has acknowledged an additional 69 South Korean people as having been kidnapped by North Korea during the Korean War.

During the 15th committee meeting Friday, the government added 69 people including Lee Sun-jae, who was a judge at the Seoul High Court at the time, to the list of South Korean abductees. A total of 76 people were under review.

This will bring the official number of South Korean citizens abducted by the North Korean troops during the Korean War to three-thousand-three-hundred-75 since the government set up a committee in 2010 to probe the damages of the abductees and restore their honor.

Of the seven people reviewed and not classified as abductees, the government concluded that the abductee statuses of five were unknown, while two were proven not to have been abducted.
