South Korean female sports climber Kim Ja-in won the Lead World Championship in Gijon, Spain on Sunday.
The 25-year-old South Korean finished first among her competitors both in the preliminaries and the semifinals at the event.
Sunday was Kim’s first win at the world championship in her sixth entry into the biennial event. It is also Korea’s first-ever win at the climbing world championship hosted by the International Federation of Sports Climbing.
Kim has been a three-time runner-up at the Lead World Championship in 2009, 2011 and 2012.
She has also dominated Lead Climbing over several years, winning the Lead World Cup in 2010 and 2013. She also won the overall title at the 2010 World Cup, which counts the points at the other two disciplines of sports climbing: Boulder and Speed Climbing.
Kim will compete in the Asian Championship to be held in Lombok, Indonesia, in January.
