'Pyongyang Proposes Meeting with Japanese People in N. Korea to Tokyo'

Japan’s Kyodo News reports Pyongyang has proposed that Tokyo send a government official to the North, promising to arrange a meeting with Japanese people living in the communist state.

The Japanese news agency said that North Korea made the proposal in bilateral meetings with Japan, which have been held since early July to discuss the Japanese abductees in the North.

However, Kyodo said the Japanese government doubts the North would arrange meetings with Japanese abductees, and instead will likely only allow meetings with Japanese women married to North Koreans who have been unable to return to their home country.
