South Korea has called on North Korea to be more cooperative in inter-Korean meetings to discuss ways to develop the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
Seoul's Ministry of Unification made the push on Monday, the eve of the first anniversary of the complex’s normalization after a six-month hiatus.
The ministry asked the North to faithfully implement an inter-Korean agreement to discuss cross-border travel, communication and customs at the complex.
The ministry said that since everything is ready, the two sides only need to decide when to facilitate South Korean workers’ cross-border travel and provide Internet services to the complex.
Last year, the two Koreas agreed on the two issues after the complex resumed operations, but the North has been lukewarm toward related meetings to discuss the matters since the February joint military exercises between the South and the U.S.
The ministry said that Seoul has repeatedly called for subcommittee discussions on cross-border travel, communication and customs at the park, but Pyongyang has not been cooperative.
The South Korean government is said to have sent a message again on Thursday to the North proposing a subcommittee meeting to discuss the three issues.
