S. Korean Films Festival to Open in Buenos Aires Next Month

A festival featuring South Korean films will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina next month.

The event, dubbed the Han Cinema Korean Film Festival, will be the first of its kind to be held in the South American city and will run from October 2 to 8.

The festival will show ten high quality South Korean films that have had commercial success and are likely to be enjoyed by the Latin American audience. The ten films include “The Thieves” and “Cold Eyes,” with the festival set to open with director Ryoo Seung-wan’s “The Berlin File.”

In particular, the event is likely to attract local K-pop fans, as K-pop stars appear in some of the movies to be screened.

Lee Jong-ryool, who heads the Korean culture center in Buenos Aires that organized the festival, said the upcoming event will be held in Cinemark, the largest multiplex cinema chain in Latin America.

He said the festival will not only serve as a venue to introduce South Korea’s culture but will also provide the vital opportunity to diversify exports of South Korea’s cultural contents.
