N. Korea Unveils Plan to Develop Wonsan, Mt. Geumgang as Tourist Zone

North Korea has unveiled a project to develop its east coast city of Wonsan and Mount Geumgang as an international tourist zone.

The Wonsan Development General Company under the North's ministry of foreign economic relations held a session in Dalian, China on Saturday to present its blueprint for the development project.

The North said it will repair and expand the current roads connecting the downtown area of the city to the Masikryong ski resort and Mount Geumgang resort.

It also plans to modernize hotels in the city and build an international exhibition hall and commercial facilities.

The development plan also includes the construction of an airport on the Kalma Peninsula in the city to allow foreign tourists to directly visit the planned tourist zone without passing through Pyongyang.

The North said that it is ready to approve South Korea’s participation in the development.
