Korea-Japan Festival to be Held in Tokyo on Sept. 27, 28

The Tokyo leg of the Korea-Japan Festival, the biggest cross-cultural annual event between the two countries, will be held in Tokyo this weekend.

The South Korean Embassy in Japan said on Monday that the festival will be held in Hibiya Park in Tokyo on Saturday and Sunday.

The festival has been held every year in both Seoul and Tokyo since it was launched in 2005, a year designated as the year of South Korea-Japan friendship in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The festival will feature various programs including concerts by K-pop artists, traditional dance performances by Korean and Japanese dancers, and an exhibition of books introducing Korea.

The embassy said that the opening ceremony on Saturday will be attended by former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and a member of the Japanese royal family.

The Seoul leg was held on September 14 and was attended by Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and Japanese Ambassador to Korea Koro Bessho.
