S. Korean Female Judoka Brings Gold in 1st Inter-Korean Final at Asiad

South Korean female judoka Jeong Gyeong-mi beat North Korea’s Sol Kyong on Monday to defend her Asiad title.

Jeong, ranked eighth in the world, beat 11th-ranked Sol in the 78-kilogram final at Dowon Gymnasium in Incheon to win her second Asiad gold medal. The South Korean judoka first brought home the gold from the Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010.

Jeong, 29, beat Sol, 24, by shido, meaning Sol was awarded a penalty during the bout.

Jeong won the first inter-Korean final at the event and is the first South Korean female judoka to defend a title at the Asian Games.

The South Korean Judo team also won four bronze medals on Monday.
