A ceremony marking shortwave broadcasters' efforts during the Japanese colonial era for Korea's independence was held on Friday in front of the KBS main building.

The Korean Broadcasters' Association commemorated the courage and inspiration of those who received broadcasts about independence movements from overseas and spread the news to Korean listeners.

In 1942, members of the Joseon Broadcasting Association secretly listened to news of independence movements taking place abroad via shortwave radio and spread it in Korea. At the time the Japanese colonial government had arrested some 350 Koreans for spreading information from such broadcasts.
