S. Korea Racks up Medal Tally on 13th day of Incheon Asiad

South Korea added more medals to its tally, including golds in women's handball and hockey, on the 13th day of the Incheon Asian Games on Wednesday.

In the women's handball event, South Korea defeated Japan 29-19. The win comes after the team lost to Japan in the semifinals and settled for a bronze at the 2010 Asian Games.

The country claimed a gold medal in women's hockey, defeating China 1-0. The win was the first Asiad gold in women's hockey since the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games.

Defending Olympic champion Kim Hyeon-woo won the gold medal in the men's 75 kg Greco-Roman wrestling, while Ryu Han-su won the gold medal in the 66 kg category.

Kim Beom-jun and Kim Ae-kyung defended their title in the mixed doubles event in soft tennis to win gold for the fourth consecutive Asian Games, beating the Chinese team of Zhou Mo and Chen Hui 5-1 in the final.

South Korean taekwondo fighters added medals in both the men's and women's events.  Kim So-hui took a gold medal in the women’s under-46 kg event, while Lee Ah-reum won gold in the women’s under-57kg event. In the men's over-87kg division, Jo Chol-ho picked up the gold.

South Korea earned its first-ever silver medal in the rhythmic gymnastics team event. The team of Son Yeon-jae, Lee Da-ae, Gim Yun-hee and Lee Na-kyung had a combined score of 164.046 points in the team final, following Uzbekistan with 170.130.  South Korea had previously claimed two team bronzes in 1998 and 2002.

Boxer Park Jin-a won the silver medal in the women's lightweight (57-60 kg) class, earning South Korea its first silver medal in women's boxing at an Asiad.  Park lost to China's Yin Junhua in a 0-2 decision.

Also on Wednesday, South Korea's Park Chil-sung won a silver, finishing with a record of 3:49:15 in the men's 50km race walk event. Japan’s Takayuki Tanii took the gold.

In diving, Kim Su-ji won a bronze in the women's 1m springboard final with a score of 269.85. Kim’s medal is South Korea's first bronze in a women's individual diving event since the country began to participate in the Asian Games.
