S. Korean Boxer Wins First Asiad Gold in 12 Years

South Korea won two gold medals in boxing for the first time in 12 years at an Asiad.

Boxer Shin Jong-hun grabbed a gold in men's light flyweight boxing on Friday at the Incheon Asian Games, beating Birzhan Zhakypov of Kazakhstan 3-0 in the final.

Ham Sang-Myeong also secured another gold medal for the country in men’s boxing bantamweight beating out China’s Zhang Jiawei.

The gold medals are the first in the sport since 2002 when the country won three gold medals at the Busan Asian Games.

South Korea also secured two silvers in the men's and women's regu events in sepaktakraw as Thailand claimed golds in both events.

Later in the evening on Friday, the South Korean men's basketball team will play Iran in the final aiming for its first gold at an Asiad in 12 years.

One day ahead of the closing ceremony, South Korea ranks second in the medal tally with 75 golds.
