North Korean Delegation Arrives in Incheon in Rare Visit

Three of North Korea's top officials arrived in Incheon on Saturday to attend the closing of the Incheon Asian Games.

Hwang Pyong So, vice chairman of North Korea’s National Defense Commission and the head of the North's army's General Political Bureau, as well as senior aides Choe Ryong Hae and Kim Yang Gon, landed at Incheon International Airport at 9:52 a.m. on Saturday.

Hwang appeared in full military attire as he was the first to emerge from the airport at 10:19 a.m. and left in a black vehicle with Choe. Kim Yang Gon rode in another vehicle with South Korean Vice Unification Minister Kim Nam-sik around 10:30 a.m. and entered Incheon escorted by police vehicles.

Roughly 50 police and 20 government officials were present at the airport to secure the area early on Saturday.

The high ranking delegation will meet with North Korean athletes taking part in the Asian Games, attend the closing ceremony in the evening and return to Pyongyang around 10 p.m.

North Korea had sent its plans to send the delegation early on Friday, which was later authorized by the South Korean government
