The Incheon Asian Games wrapped up 16 days of competition with a closing ceremony Saturday evening at the main stadium.
The Asiad flag was handed over to Jakarta, Indonesia, the games' next host city before the Asian Games' flame was extinguished.
Top South and North Korean officials were both present at the closing ceremony including Prime Minister Chung Hong-won and Hwang Pyong-so, vice chairman of the North's National Defense Commission and head of the North Korean army's General Political Bureau.
In the final medal count, South Korea finished second after China with a total of 234 medals, out of which South Korean athletes won 79 gold medals, 71 silver and 84 bronze. South Korea achieved the goal of a second place finish for the fifth consecutive Asian Games.
Rounding out the top four, Japan finished third place overall while Kazakhstan finished fourth.
